In my opinion, this is a matter of perception. Yes, every individual involves themselves with the fashion industry in one way or another. Whether that's being a merchandiser, consumer, buyer, or designer, it is inescapable. Obviously, most people full under the "consumer" category considering most fashion is marketed towards consumerism. Logically, clothing is necessary; our society would not function without it and it is a major part of our culture. (Wherever you reside) Though everyone is involved in the fashion industry, it does not mean that everyone views it the same way. Many people see it as a logical means to survival within this culture, whereas other people see it as personal expression and creativity. For some it's a hobby, and for others its a business. Fashion is all about perception and personality. It is how you choose to utilize it that will help you to understand how it plays a large role in today's society.
One equivalent to a pyramid in today's society could be a corporate hierarchy, with a CEO at the top, followed by executives, managers, and employees at the bottom. Another equivalent could be social media influencers, where a select few at the top have a large following, while many others have smaller audiences.

Neiman Marcus is not a brand, but it is a store that carries high fashion brands. They are known for quality and carry a very large range of high fashion designer fashions.
As I am obsessed with fashion I can see that there are plenty of problems in the industry. 1) Models are too skinny and are anorexic which has a large impact to society. Designers say clothes hang better on them but they should have curves! 2) High Fashion is not accessible enough to a younger and poorer audience and needs to be for anyone interested in fashion not just the rich. 3) If someones like Lady Gaga walks out people laugh and point but actually fashion as become to boring and predictable as fashion from designers such as Hussein chayalan and Alexander McQueen have been labeled as freakish. I think you should celebrate every style and give it a place in the mainstream.
