The main way in which climate change is affecting koalas is that Australia is becoming prone to more frequent and intense bushfires which, of course, kill koalas. Eucalyptus bushland will always regenerate after a bushfire - that is the way Australian native plants are designed - but the impact on the koala population can be quite devastating. Koalas simply have nowhere to run and hide during a bushfire.

Another way in which climate change can affect koalas is that, with increasing droughts that extend over a wider range and continue for longer, this does impact on healthy gum trees of the type favoured by koalas. As a consequence, koalas are more likely to wander beyond their home trees, which uts them at risk of being hit by cars or attacked by dogs.

Koalas have survived global warming cycles for thousands of years. The natural cycle of Australia's climate is one of extremes: this has been proven by fossil evidence.

However, a 2008 report suggested that global warming could create increased toxicity of eucalyptus leaves, as the level of toxicity in the leaves of eucalyptus saplings increases, and their nutrient levels fall, when they are exposed to higher levels of carbon dioxide. However, these effects have not yet been seen to impact on koala populations.

What causes global warming in the ozone?

It doesn't. UV-B destroys ozone. UV-C breaks apart oxygen, and some of that oxygen later forms more ozone. So UV makes and destroys ozone, but the ozone layer stays as long as UV-C is present. The ozone layer reduces the amount of UV that reaches the surface of the Earth. Without it, the greater amount of UV would severely impact life on the surface. Chemicals such as chlorofluorocarbons can reduce the amount of ozone in the ozone layer, if they get high enough into the atmosphere, and thus let more UV through to the surface.

Does the ozone layer have anything to do with global warming?

No, Global Climate Change has very little to do with the Depletion of the Ozone Layer.Recent global climate change or global warming is now considered by most climate scientists to be the likely result of increases in man-made greenhouse gas concentrations such as carbon Dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere. These gases absorb strongly in the Infra red part of the electromagnetic spectrum. This has the effect of trapping heat and raising the temperature of the lower atmosphere. The depletion of the ozone (O3) layer or 'ozone hole' occurs mainly in the stratosphere, and is due to the catalytic destruction by atomic chlorine and bromine. The main source of these is from the photodissociation of man made chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) compounds. These effects are usually regarded as distinct phenomena. However there are a number of areas of linkage between ozone depletion and recent global warming. The same CO2 radiative forcing that produces global warming is expected to cool the stratosphere leading to a relative increase in ozone depletionReduced ozone causes the stratosphere to absorb less solar radiation, thus cooling the stratosphere while warming the troposphere; the resulting colder stratosphere also emits less long-wave radiation downward, thus cooling the troposphere. Overall, the cooling dominatesOzone depleting chemicals are also greenhouse gases. One of the strongest predictions of the greenhouse effect is that the stratosphere will cool, due to less infra red radiation coming up from the surface and greater radiative cooling of the stratosphere due to more CO2.Ozone is also created at the surface due to photochemical reactions between various man made pollutants, this adds to the greenhouse warming but is nothing to do with the ozone depletion in the stratosphere.

How are greenhouse gasses added to the atmosphere?

Air pollution from cars, trucks, jets, boats, factories, power plants and other consumers of fossil fuels; Volcanoes, Cows emit methane gas to contribute to 10% of global warming; human/animal exhalation. Gases also rise up through the ground. Greenhouse gases effect the atmosphere by creating a 'blanket' over the earth, allowing heat, in the form of infra-red radiation, to pass into the earth but not out again, thus heating up the earth, and thus causing global warming.

What is the fastest ever recorded kangaroo running speed?

The largest of the kangaroos, the Red kangaroo, has been clocked at up to 64 kph.

When will human extinction occur?

The human race will not go extinct because of Global Warming. Global Warming is a current threat, but because of the fact many people know about it, people are changing their habits for the better. (Ex; recycling, being aware, reducing their carbon footprints). The human race is not threatened because of Global Warming, but some animal species are as a result of careless actions by humans.

Does global warming affect the red panda?

Global warming is not yet a threat to red pandas. Their biggest threat comes from loss of habitat due to expanding population moving into their territories. Red pandas can't adapt to new environments.

What radiation is absorbed by global warming?

Infra Red Light: Global warming is associated with Infra-Red rays that the earth emits to the atmosphere, where it is absorbed by the greenhouse gases of Carbon Dioxide and water vapor.

How does infrared radiatio relate to global warming?

Infra-red picks up thermal imagery. It related to global warming as it contributes to the greenhouse effect. However, it also helps us to see where the global warming is affecting the climate and how much it is raising each year.
