After opening the parachute do you go up?

No. In many movies it appears that someone opening a parachute flies up in the air. However, this is because of the perspective of the camera, which continues falling while the person slows down. Gravity continues to pull the person down to the ground, the parachute only slows them down.

What force is stronger gravity or air resistance?

Gravity is stronger. If gravity was not stronger air would make us float away. Air is trying to make things go up and gravity is making things go down.

How will punching a hole in a parachute affect the rate at which it falls?

wouldn't the air trapped in the parachute quickly go out, then you will quickly fall until splat on the ground

How can you make a seed with parachute fall quicker on the ground?

Well its depending on the MASS of the seed or how many seeds you added to your parachute. But if not, try doing a fair test for you parachute. But you'll never can make a seed drop down quicker. It depends on GRAVITY too. Gravity is invented by Isaac Newton. Many sad the apple drop on his head and he got the idea of gravity, but that was wrong. The apple drop next to him.If this does not help you go to my email. Tristan66ko@hotmail.com

Why does smaller parachutes hit the ground before bigger parachutes?

If you have two parachutes, one big and one small, the biggest one will take more time then the other parachute. This happens because there is more room in the parachute which is causing air to go in side, which is air resistance. The smaller parachute has a lot of air resistance because it is smaller and there is less room for the air to go inside. However, the bigger balloon has little air resistance because it has more room in it for the air to get inside. The air is pushing the balloon up so it will fall slower.

Explain how a parachute works using the terms air resistance surface area and gravity?

A parachute works as the gravity allows the parachute to go up into the air, then the surface area is covered with air resistance.

Do you go up when you open your parachute?

Yes, you do. When a parachute deploys in mid air on the way down to the ground you go up. Only because when you are moving down the wind is moving up from you. So when the parachute opens and the wind is cought then the wind (going up) pushes the parachute up but only for a little while beause eventually gravity will take control.

What type of friction will you create when you let go of a parachute in the air?

Air resistance.

Air resistance.

How does a parachute enable a person to jump without getting hurt?

A parachute slows down the descent of a person by creating drag and increasing air resistance. When a person jumps with a parachute, the parachute opens up and generates enough drag to slow down the fall, allowing the person to land safely without getting hurt.

What happens after you open a parachute?

well after opening the parachute it will be filled with air so technically the individual will go down slowly due to air resistance .

Why does a weight go slower as a parachute gets bigger?

cross sectional area for air resistance is greater as you increase the parachute size.

What does the vent on the top of the parachute do?

The vent on top of the parachute helps air go through. If you didn't have a vent at the top you would be floating in the same place. The vent makes the parachute go down slowly but not fast enough to where you would drop.
