Effects of the internal combustion engine on the environment include:-

To make an engine you need steel or aluminum and many other resources. To make steel and aluminum requires energy to mine the raw material from the ground and huge amounts of energy to refine the metals and make them into an engine. We get energy from coal or oil which is another resource being used. These resources cannot be replaced unless you wait millions of years. Man should not be manufacturing new cars and using these resources. Worldwide Governments should make regulations that require people to fix the old engine instead of using more resources to make a new engine. To save the environment man must stop making new stuff. People in developed countries have become obsessed with manufactured goods. To save the environment - stop buying stuff. Sustainability is about using only that which can be replaced. Wood, water, wool are examples of resources which are sustainable. Steel, coal and aluminum are limited, non-renewable resources.
