Leukemia is cancer of the blood. Many immature white cells are formed and fewer red blood cells and platelets are formed. The lack of RBCs cause anemia and low platelet count affects the clotting mechanism. The white blood cells can invade the nervous tissue causing damage and headaches. The white blood cells that fight off infections and pathogen are lower in numbers and the person can't fight off viruses and bacteria well.
Leukemia(the name assigned to many several blood disorders) is a disease(or diseases) of the blood. Because blood supports every part of our body, Leukemia will eventually affect tissue in the body. Leukemia patients are routinely checked for changes in their bodies besides the blood disease itself. The Heart,Lungs,Kidneys and Liver all can be seriously affected by changes in the blood.
I have a form of Leukemia called Myleodysplastic Syndrome. There are certain types of blood cells called "Blasts" that everyone has. They are acceptable up to 3% of total blood cell counts. After that, these "blast cells" prevent white, red and platelet cells from maturing and getting into the blood stream, causing low blood counts. THe only cure for this disease is a Stem Cell transplant that replaces the defective bone marrow to build new, healthy blood cells. THe success rate is over 80% in this procedure and there are a lot of patients still alive after ten years of their transplants. I am a candidate for a transplant and I am waiting for a donor that is as close to perfect as possible.

Unlike elders, minds of children are without fear, worries. To my mind, disease may not have any impact. However, aggressive treatment prescribed by modern medical science, will have an impact.
