Look for leaking fluid at the slave or master cylinder.
Look near the brake master cylinder for a reservoir or your brake fluid and clutch fluid might share the same reservoir
The fluid for the clutch comes from the brake fluid. After the brake master cylinder, there is a clutch master cylinder which takes fluid from the brakes. Fill up the Brake master cylinder.
Its hydraulic ,you cant, check your slave cylinder to see if its leaking, its located thru a rubber cover on side of transmission,if leaking replace and bleed, also check clutch master cylinder,if not leaking, then you might need a new clutch kit.
Should be on firewall next to master cylinder
did you check your slave cylinder? is the hydraulic master cylinder leaking? did you try bleeding the clutch at all? what exactly does your pedal do? does it go straight to the floor or does it have pedal? there may be an air pocket in your lines? it could be alot of things you have to be more specific with your question
On the clutch slave cylinder
To bleed the clutch on a 1988 Jeep Comanche, first ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and the engine is off. Locate the clutch master cylinder and remove the cap, then use a clear hose connected to the bleeder valve on the slave cylinder. Open the bleeder valve and pump the clutch pedal several times, holding it down while you close the valve to prevent air from entering. Repeat this process until no air bubbles appear in the fluid, then top off the master cylinder and replace the cap.
Seems like your master cylinder is bad!
In a 1988 Pontiac Grand Am you will find the clutch slave cylinder located on the flywheel. You will need to remove the hush panel from the driver's side foot well to gain access to the clutch slave cylinder.
IT is low on fluid or the clutch cylinder is bad or the slave cylinder on the transmission bell housingAnswerOR the pressure plate colasped-OR linkage is broke - but only if the slave cylinder is moving. AnswerUpon further inspection I have found out that I have a leaking steel line from the clutch master cylinder to the slave cylinder. Thanks again for the replys!!!! What if the pedal is pumped and the pressure returns then works properly? could this be from low fluid or something to do with the reservoir or a leak in the line?
Purchase a repair manual at most parts stores, ( around $12 ) for detailed instructions on this and many other repairs.
You will need to remove the transmission to replace the clutch slave.
