A diode allows current to flow in only one direction. If the current is flowing, the diode has a low resistance and it behaves like a wire or a switch in the on position. If the voltage across the diode is reversed, no current flows and the diode has a very high resistance. It behaves like a switch in the off position.
DC voltages are used to switch the diode on or off. The signal that is being switched is usually an AC audio or radio signal. Capacitors block DC but pass AC signals. By combining diodes and capacitors, the AC and DC signals are kept separate and the switch can be built.
Basically a diode is a combinstion of pN junction but the transistor is made with three terminals EMITTER,, BASE ,, JUNCTION.. and diode is just a combination of positive and negative terminal . diode and transistors are both used as a switch .. but a transistor is more widly udes than a diode. and diode has also very important in electronics DIGITAL SYSTEM to make the screen's ..and transistors are used in amplifiers the group of transistors make an amplifier . and we use a diode in seven segment display ....diode is small and carry less current due to its small size but transistor get large current. A2 A diode has two connections. It allows current to flow in one direction and not in the other. They are used for rectification in power supplies, detection of AM radio, blocking of current etc. A Transistor has three connections. Current is controlled between the emitter and collector, by a small current on the base. They are used as switches, amplifiers and regulators.
A transistor is used to switch electronic signals.
Besides rectification, the diode can be used as a switch.
No, the voltage across a silicon PN junction diode does not depend exponentially on the current through the diode. The relationship between voltage and current in a PN junction diode is described by the diode equation, which is an exponential relationship between current and the voltage across the diode. However, this relationship depends on factors such as the temperature and doping levels of the diode, in addition to the material used.
No, the doping profile is entirely wrong. Also some transistors have very low reverse breakdown voltage on the BE junction and will burn out!
there are many uses. one major use i remember is in rectification i.e convert ac to dc For switch operation
The junction formed by the combination of a P- type & N-Type material in known as PN jn diode. It is used as a switch as well as a rectifier.
zener diode
The difference between the pn-junction diode and the zener diode is that the pn-junction diode is used for rectification while the zener diode is used for rectification and stabilization. Also, the zener diode can function in the breakdown region while the pn-juntion diode can not function in that regime.
A zener diode cannot be used as switch.
A: Yes it can but why ? This is frequently done when the diode is used for biasing purposes on another transistor and must be matched identically to the transistor's E-B junction characteristics. Thus 2 matched transistors are used with one just being used as a diode.
Not sure of your context. A diode is a diode. One artificial distinction might be that an electric diode refers to a diode used in a higher power application with more current where an electronic diode might be found on a circuit board as part of an electronic lower power application.

because that the tunnel diode is a standard pn junction diode in many respect except its highly doped pn junction so it has some characteristics in the negative resistance region another that its a standard diode
The VI characteristics of PN junction diode when used as a diode rectifier are reverse bias and rectification is shown by an asymmetrical current flow.
yes diode can be used as a switch as it conducts current in only one direction.it is a open switch when it reverse biased.and as aclosed switch when it is forward biased.but we consider diode as ideal .
The use of the pn diode is for rectification. It can also be used as a switch.
