Rheumatic Heart disease results from a condition caused by Rheumatic fever. The fever is an inflammatory disease caused by strep throat or scarlet fever. The bacteria can sometimes make its way to the heart and damage the valves that keep blood from flowing backwards. If severe, it may require surgery to replace the valves. Valve replacement is easily done by heart surgeons.
