Industries such as automobile manufacturing, steel industies, the railroad, and shipbuilding offered steady jobs. After the Great Depression of the 1930's there was another migration toward the western states, where computer technology was gaining prominence. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Consider how long does it takes to crawl 100 miles. Then consider the advancements in travel we have achieved over the last several hundred years: Bicycles, carriages, automobiles, locomotives and airplanes. When you reduced the amount of time it takes to get from point A to point B - migration becomes more affordable in both time and money.
