Primarily that the Vietnam War was fought by WWII commanders (WWII veterans); their last war.
In WWII, Japan took over a lot of Asian countries that were colonized by European counties. Vietnam was colonized by France. After the war, the French came back and they thought that it would be like it was before the war. The Vietnamese people realized that the French were vulnerable, having been beaten by the Japanese. If the Japanese could defeat the French in Vietnam, then so could the Vietnamese people.

To provide an accurate answer, I would need to know which specific memorial you are referring to, as there are many memorials dedicated to various wars. For example, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. honors those who served in the Vietnam War. Similarly, the World War II Memorial commemorates the Americans who served during World War II. Please specify the memorial for a precise answer.
Vietnam was a shooting war (a hot war). A cold war is a NON-shooting war; a cold war is a "stand-off" between two (or more) adversaries. Technically, Vietnam, being part of the cold war...communism verses the free world...the Vietnam War was a "Hot BATTLE" of the cold war.
