White blood cells attack the flu virus inside your body, trying to destroy them for you. This is one way the body reacts to the flu. Another way is that your skin blocks out most of the viruses trying to get into your body. Hope this is helpful. :)

All viruses follow the same basic steps, referred to as the lytic cycle, when they are first causing infection.

First the Flu, in this case, enters the body through close contact with an infected person or things they have touched, leaving virus particles behind. The flu virus enters through the mucus membranes (e.g., nose, mouth, or eyes) when they come in contact with them.

LYTIC CYCLE:

  • Step 1- A virus attaches to a host cell.
  • Step 2- The virus breaks through the host cell's membrane (phospholipid bilayer) and releases its genetic instructions into the cell.
  • Step 3- The injected genetic material starts controlling the host cell's enzymes.
  • Step 4- The 'zombie' enzymes start making parts for more new viruses.
  • Step 6- The new virus particles assemble into fresh new viruses.
  • Step 7- The new particles break out of the host cell and infect other cells in the body.

Influenza, or the flu, is considered an acute situation, which means that it comes on sudden and has severe signs and symptoms, including a fever. Your body, under these conditions, is not trying to balance itself out, it is at war with a virus, so it brings the immune system into high gear in order to fight off the infection. Once the infection has died down, then it works on balancing and maintaining harmony in its body systems; homeostasis.
