If its anything like my 88 lebaron convertible on the inside your going to have to take out the trim on the floor by the door and then take off the whole side panel in the back seat...a pain!

I've got a 1993 celica gt convertible. my guess is probably that the convertible version wasn't made until later so the car in general is a different sie. also, the convertible is already a little different shape so the top will have someplace to go when it's down. that room isn't in a normal celica
I is not really a motor, it is an electric hydraulc pump, it is located under the rear part of the top on one of the sides of the car Usually behind the rear upholstery panel (where the rear passenger door would be if it was a 4 door car), if you cannot find it, follow the cables on the inside of the convertible top frame until you get to the actuating cylinder, you will find a long hydraulic cylinder under the rear of the top, follow the hoses.
Been there done that on my '88. Blown head gasket, easy fix if you're mechanically inclined.
The column has to be diassembled, there are 3 torque screws that come loose and also there is a bering that wears
