The laws of segregation and independent assortment affect the analysis of inheritance patterns in a number of ways. One of the ways that the laws affect the pattern is there is no guarantee that the characteristics and traits of two parents will be definitely passed on in the same way to their children or their children's children.
Gregor Johann Mendel is credited with discovering the pattern of genetic inheritance
In extra chromosomal inheritance the following three examples are discussed 1.Maternal effects depending indirectly on nuclear gene and involving no known cytoplasmic hereditary units. 2. cytoplasmic inheritance involving dispensable and infective hereditary particles in cytoplasm which may or may not depend on nuclear genes 3. Cytoplasmic inheritance involving essential organelles like chloroplasts and mitichondria.
The three most common and important patterns of inheritance in humans are; autosomal recessive, autosomal dominate, and x-linked recessive. There are, of course, other patterns but these are the best place to start since autosomal can be in either sex and x-linked are from the X-chromosome.
