Usually the side with the spring goes to the engine side.

The thermostat is located right on the front of the engine block. It is not a normal thermostat like you see in most vehicles. It is actually the flange that the lower radiator hose slips on to. Drain your engine coolant, remove the clamp on the lower radiator hose going to to the motor. remove the two 10mm bolts from the radiator hose flange to the motor, and the entire assembly will come out. when you purchase a new thermostat, it will come already mounted in a new housing. Replace the gasket, place the new thermostat in the motor, and reinstall the bolts.
follow the top radiator hose from the radiator to where it bolts to the motor, remove the 2 bolts holding the thermostat housing to the motor, remove the thermostat put in the new on and clean the old gasket sealer off the housing put new sealer and replace bolts

ok if you are looking at the motor you will see a rubber pipe going from the motor to the radiator if you follow that to the motor the first metal you see is the thermostat housing when the motor is cold take the two bolts of the housing you will have to buy a new gasket for it plus a thermostat remember the direction you took it out the new one will look the same so make sure you put it back the same way you took it out if you car is overheating i would sell it if i were you
The thermostat on a 1998 Isuzu Trooper is located on the front of the motor. It is in the top radiator hose where it connects to the motor. To access the thermostat, the hose needs to be disconnected from the motor.
follow the radiator hose that goes to the motor, the thermostat housing is the thing the hose is hooked to and it is bolted to the motor with three bolt i believe. you take the hose off, the housing off and just take the old thermostat out and put the new one in.
Buy a new car to replace the faulty thermostat Follow the top radiator hose to the motor. The thermostat is in the housing that the hose is attached to and held by two bolts. Use a new gasket and sealant on fitting the housing.
have never changed a thermostat on mine. but when we put in the new motor we noticed it was located on the back side of the motor below the exhaust but above the oil pan. follow the 2in pipe that is bolted to the oil pan to the left side/back of the motor
Unbolt the thermostat houseing remove the old thermostat clean all of the old gasket off of the housing and the inlet put on new gasket and new thermostat also recommend flushing the cooling system re torqur the thermostat housing bolts to the proper torque and run the motor check for leaks.
take out the bolts where the top radiator hose enters the motor,pull out thermostat,clean off gasket material on both sides,install thermostat and new gasket,tighten bolts
