It doesn't really, except that some sedimentary rock can be pushed above sea-level by the movement of the plates. This is why various shell fossils etc. can be found in mountain ranges.

What role does plate tectonics play in the rock cycle?

Plate tectonics play a crucial role in the rock cycle by driving the movement and recycling of Earth's crustal materials. Through processes like subduction and mountain-building, tectonic plate movements contribute to the formation of different types of rocks, such as igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic, which are essential stages in the rock cycle.

What keeps the rock cycle going?

The weather and plate tectonics.

Why is sedimentary rock more common on earths surface than metamorphic or igneous rock?

== == == Erosion and weathering of igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks eventually leads to formation of more sedimentary rock. Additionally, huge areas of continents have been covered by inland seas at one time or another in geologic time creating vast amounts of sedimentary rock. Plate tectonics also plays a role in the thrusting upward of areas that once were ocean floor.
