How far can Mauritius remain unaffected by world events?

By world events, it is understood to be major occurrences affecting the social, political, economic and environmental aspects of our island Mauritius. Indeed, just being a tiny dot on the globe's map, Mauritius has achieved a good reputations worldwide, namely for the ease in doing business and environmental standards. As the economy is growing, there are several events which has influenced its economic activities. For example, the Tsunami in Japan has caused Mauritius to ban various products incoming from the former country. This affected the island's import greatly. Moreover, major events like the financial crisis and the Euro crisis have had serious repercussions on the country's trade and employment. For instance, low demand of sugar and textile products from the countries found in the Euro zone has decreased the country's export revenues, thereby leading to a budget deficit. Turmoil in the Middle East countries are causing world prices to escalate high levels, some thing which will difficult to afford for Mauritius in the near future given it is an oil-importing nation.
