But we definitely need to have an international date line somewhere. At some point, the far east meets the far west, and one day becomes another day. It has to happen, for our time keeping system to make sense on a global scale. If you just stayed in the same city for your whole life, you would never need an international date line (or a passport). But in the age of jet airplanes, we travel a lot.
