It depends on the use. Old computers with slow processors can be used for email and web browsing, but for photorealistic 3d gaming or other intensive uses, or if you just want things done fast, 3 ghz could help.

How your computer works so fast What is the principle or process behind it?

well if you mean how does your computer work so fast..... the proces is mostly in the CPU/ aka the central procesing unit. tipes of CPU's 1 the Pentium and 2 the core duo. the core duo is called core duo for a reason. the duo CPU works twice as fast as the pentiun. theres many tipes of brands of CPU's like Intel or Pentium thers also the Pentium 1,2,3..and soo on. the latest the CPU the faster your computer.(hint)you cant just go and buy any CPU because you have to check if the CPU is compatible with your mother board and your ram.the ram makes your computer faster too .....by helping the CPU . an example is the following.supose your downloading 3 files at the same time and your on youtube at the same time, the CPU can only process a certain amount of information soo the CPU gives the ram the information to store temporarely while the CPU processes the rest of the in formatio. the core duo works twice as fast because is like if you had 2 CPU's.

Max it out!!! The CPU can only be as fast as it's cache size and than it's memory.

Why is the speed of the CPU dependent on the RAM?

In certain applications, the overall speed may be dependent on the RAM. If you have a fast CPU but very little RAM then your performance will be slowed.

Can you use a larger CPU than is required by the motherboard without conflict?

You can but your CPU will probably not go as fast as it should. The motherboard has a system crystal that has a clock. The speed of the clock is called the frontside bus speed. A CPU uses a multiplier to make the CPU go faster. For instance if the frontside bus is 100MHz and the CPU has a multipier of 5, then the CPU will operate at 500MHz. So, if you use a CPU that is larger than what the motherboard requires the front side bus, which is dictated by the type of motherboard may be slower that what your CPU is supposed to see so it will run slower. Hope this helps, if you have any questoins leave it on my message board.
