As long as you aren't making drastic modifications you should be alright. The quest for more horsepower can get very expensive though and horsepower without torque is useless. Also be prepared for some disappointments along the way. For instance you would think double horsepower would mean doublely fast. Not so. Many family sedans can get to sixty in under seven seconds and pull a 15 second quarter mile. But if you double the horsepower you probably aren't going to get to sixty in 3.5 seconds or pull a 7.5 quarter mile.
