Well, it all depends.

What is the video card that comes with it? You need at least a GeForce 8000 series of equivalent ATI Radeon series. If none is listed that means you have an Intel card which is very bad!

How much ram does it have? For Vista you can get by with 1G of ram but 2G is strongly recommended. For XP 512MB is ok but 1G is better. 2G on XP won't help. If none is listed turn away immediately.

Lastly, what OS does it come with? If it is any version of Vista (home basic, ultimate, etc..) you should consider buying a copy of XP. Vista has too many things running in the background and has rearranged all the settings. On a Pentium 4HT 3Ghz the boot time for vista is significantly longer. For a cheap way to get XP go to newegg.com and search XP Pro OEM of XP Media Center OEM.

Finally, if you know how to, build a PC. By buying a PC from HP you loose many advanced BIOS features that can help.

Is an Intel core prossessor better than a quad core prossessor?

The question you're asking, unfortunately, is not worded correctly. An Intel processor is a family of processor, where a quad-core processor is a type of processor. The Intel family includes many types of quad-core processors. However, to try and disambiguate what you're asking, an Intel core processor will be good, no matter what type it is. An Intel quad-core processor - for example, the Intel i7 - will perform fantastically well. The other main type of processor manufacturer - AMD - also have quad-core processors. However, a lot of it is down to opinion and machine build as to whether Intel is better than AMD, but personally, I believe Intel will out-perform and out-last an AMD processor.

Meanwhile, AMD processors still have limits. This makes it superior to the Intel processor AMD processor. Intel has not been able to show a good quality audio in their applications. Meanwhile, AMD is much better showing good results. The audio quality is meant is some communication applications such as file transfer, modem connection, and others. Transistors that process all data at the computer or laptop that uses Intel's less than the AMD processor. When Intel released a new processor, then it must be adapted to its motherboard. Which is best AMD FX 8120 8 core processor or Intel Core i7 Processor?

Intel, by default, is a better processor for people who play games frequently and multitask. AMD is good for multitasking, and not so much for games, however I personally have an AMD and I can run 2 servers up at once and play Minecraft at once. AMD is good for cheaper use, Intel is good for people who can afford it and built for games. Personally, I'd say AMD on this one, unless the GHz speed level is lower. Although - it is your choice. I'd recommend the cheaper one on this end, unless you can afford the more expensive.
