Masters in Business Administration or MBA is one of the most sought after career options for students with a business or commerce background. Nowadays, while engineering is one of the most popular fields of study, graduates of this field are also shifting towards acquiring an MBA qualification primarily because, in a corporate world, an MBA degree is the key to success. If you are wishing to pursue a degree in MBA, the first step towards this is to ensure you have secured a good rank in the respective entrance examinations of CAT or XAT or IIFT or NMAT or SNAP. Once you have secured a rank in these national level entrance examinations, you need to apply to different institutes and each will have its own criteria to fulfil. For instance, at Alakh Prakash Goyal Shimla University, which is considered to be one of the best universities in North India, the application process is quite simple. At Alakh Prakash Goyal Shimla University, you have a choice between two MBA courses with specialisations in two sectors. You can select an MBA degree with Industry Integrated with Global Exposure. You can also choose to pursue an MBA degree with specialisations in HR or IB or IT or Marketing or Finance. The eligibility criteria for these courses is an aggregate of 50 per cent in a bachelor’s degree or equivalent along with a valid score in CAT or XAT or MAT or ATMA or GMAT or HPUMAT or HPCET. agu.edu.in/master-of-business-administration-mba-hr-ib-it-marketing-finance/

What are the top business schools in India and their rankings?

Most of the Indian college rankings are “bought /biased” and do little to educate the applicant. In B- School rankings when I see schools such as ICFAI/TAPMI making into top 20 rankings I loose my trust in the rankings. An MBA is most likely your final degree to your academic profile and therefore one should not go beyond Top 20 schools. It is better to wait and keep trying hard then to settle for less. However there comes a point in everyone’s career where they feel they have hit the ceiling and waiting for another year will not do any good. In such cases if you are hellbent to do an MBA and that too from India you need to do a good research on the school and talk to its alumni and current students. I would not encourage anyone to look beyond top 30 schools in India. The odds of meeting your expectations during and post such schools are very low. Especially for a working professional with 2+ years of experience going beyond top 20 can be a very disappointing experience.I believe below are the Top 20 programs(PGP/PGDM/MBA) in India. Some would argue that the courses are not comparable. I agree however I feel the colleges are comparable to a certain extent. Also I believe an MBA experience is best consumed when a applicant has 2+ years of Industry Experience. Hence the below list caters best to such candidates.Indian Top League Schools:IIM- AISB-Hyderabad/MohaliIIM-BIIM-CIIM-LNext Top Target Schools( Category A+)6. XLRI, Jamshedpur7. FMS, Delhi8. IIM-K9. IIM-I10. SPJIMR, MumbaiCategory A11. MDI, Gurgaon12. IIM- S13. JBIMS, Mumbai14. IIFT, New Delhi15. DMS, IIT-B16. NITIE, MumbaiCategory B +17. DMS, IIT-D18. NMIMS, Mumbai19. IMT, Ghaziabad20. SIBM, PuneSome of the new IIM’s can also be included in the category B+ and could possibly jump to category A in next few years. Also if you go by specialization(Finance, Operations, Consulting, HR…) some of the schools in category A and B+ can toggle and some of the unlisted schools can be included. Hope this helps.
