When Japan first started to begin its heavy industry, it imported production technology from western countries, and it was successful in adapting and improving it. Nowadays Japan is one of the leader nations in advanced technology.
- Improving transportation technology
Transporting heavy and bulky raw materials and fuels costs a lot. Since the improvement in transportation technology in 1950s, more efficient technology metof transportation has been introduced, for example large container ships and oil tankers are used to transport raw materials and fuels with lower costs. This reduces the transportation costs.
- Innovating new technology

With the use of high- tech machines, less labour are needed. For example, robots are used in car manufacturing industr y for . High efficency means production cost per unit is low.
