Florida is most known for it's agricultural products. Their best known crops are its citrus fruits which are shipped through out North America.
In 2007, the most recent US Census of Agriculture year, there were 2,204,792 farms in the US. For Census purposes, a farm was defined as any place where $1000 or more of agricultural products were grown and sold in the course of the year.
Agriculture became the main focus in the Southern Colonies' economy because without agriculture they wouldn't have their cash crops like indigo,rice,and tobacco.They then wouldn't have food to eat or sell so they wouldn't get money.
Basically it helped sent goods/products across the nation. Also it helped during the wars when essential ammos, weaponry, armies needed to be transported. It helped agriculture boosts because you could easily transport domestic animals.
