People originated in Africa. Originally, they did not wear clothes. The earliest pictures have barefoot girls wearing see through skirts. Those skirts would have been woven from thin reeds and would have served to keep blowing sand from stinging their legs. So clothes were invented in Egypt by stripping reeds and weaving them. At some point, someone discovered the cotton plant. Its fiber could replace reeds, clothes moved south into Africa and west into Asia.
As people moved north, they had to wear animal skins because it got cold. Only animal skins provided the needed warmth.
