Canada is one of the USA's allies in NATO. By being such, it can influence both the USA and NATO policies based on its membership. Canada is the USA's friendliest trading partner. It has a positive impact on the USA economy inasmuch it is a supplier of oil and gas to America.

All in all, having a prosperous and friendly northern border with Canada is a plus for America. The same can be said for American influence on Canada.
