There is no government mint in New England. The four mints in current operation are: Philadelphia (P) and Denver (D) - circulation coins San Francisco (S) - proof and some commemorative coins West Point (W) - commemorative and bullion coins There are plenty of private mints, though. They make collectibles and bullion pieces for investment purposes, but they don't make coins for the government. Perhaps that's what you've seen.
Currently just the Denver and Philadelphia Mints make coins for general circulation.
Mints are facilities that produce coins for use as currency or as collector's items.

These facilities are equipped with machinery and technology to produce coins to the required specifications and standards. The only circulation coin to carry Franklin's portrait was the half dollar issued from 1948 to 1963. These coins are generally worth more for their silver content, around $5 to $6 as of 11/2008, than they are as collectibles unless they're in uncirculated or proof condition. There are plenty of tokens, medals, etc. with Franklin's picture too, but these aren't coins.
you can get coins from the mint by ordering the coins through the us mints web site follow this link www.usmint.gov.
The coins are recycled in the main mints of the country.
