Heritage Day, September 24, South Africans celebrate Heritage Day by remembering the cultural heritage of the many cultures that make up the population of South Africa. Various events are staged throughout the country to commemorate this day. Provincial Premier addressed the public at a Heritage Day celebration at the Gugulethu Heritage trail in 2007. In Hout Bay, there is an army procession and a recreation of the battle fought there. It's also a day for braais (barbeques).
Because people have alot of bad memories from the apartheid era in South Africa, with happennings such as the Sharpeville uprisings where a lot of South Africans lost their lives fighting for equality, this day is to honour the history and to look back at those times
The people of South Africa celebrate their holidays by travelling to different places in Africa, for example to Easter Cape or Gauteng. They also have time off work and children have time off school.
Heritage day celebrate the fact that terrorists took over the goverment of the country. It is not an important day for the whole nation but only for a section.
