Lutheranism is a branch of Protestant Christianity. The theology of Lutheranism identifies with Martin Luther.
Martin Luther was against specifically Catholic Christianity, because it called him to account for his sins and to change. He didn't want to, so he made up his own religion in which he was already saved, and didn't have to change, and he called it Christianity.
Martin Luther, the German cleric, did not invent any thing in a physical sense. He openly criticized the Catholic church, and began the Protestant branch of Christianity.
