My own experiences with them were not good. I worked for their flatbed division, out of the now defunct Eden, North Carolina terminal. At the time, the terminal manager's son was my dispatcher (Swift calls them "driver managers"), but he was replaced. The new dispatcher did his best to make life difficult for me. I was in the National Guard at the time, and he had a bad tendency to try sending me out to the west coast whenever my UTAs for the National Guard were approaching, so that he could keep me on the road - his pay was based on what his drivers generated in terms of revenue. Additionally, their safety department put me At Fault for an accident I was no way at fault for - another driver backed into me while my truck was parked at the Laredo, TX terminal.
Their driver training programme is a joke.. you spend 42 days with a "driver trainer". To be a "driver trainer" at Swift, you're only required to have six months experience. I had 18 months experience driving trucks locally at this point, and had to answer to someone who had only seven months experience (and apparently hadn't learned much in those seven months, as I often had to do his backing for him).
After six months, they try to convince you to get into lease-purchase. I'd very strongly advise against it.
Swift did, however, do a good job of keeping me loaded and rolling, and their payroll department did a good job of getting any issues resolved which arose. But, if you go to work for them, and have to have work done to the truck in the Decatur, GA terminal, remove all valuables from that truck - theft by the mechanics is a big problem there.
