A simple sentence contains one independent clause. For example,John walked into the center of town.In this case, there is only one short, simple sentence.Another example could be,The train whistled past. This sentence is short and simple.

A compound sentence contains two independent clauses which are closely related.A conjunction usually joins the two clauses.Remember to put a comma after the first clause and before the conjunction that joins the two clauses. For example; The team played hard, and they won the game easily. In this case, there are two sentences that are being combined together to make one sentence.Another example could be;Soccer is a low scoring game, but it is very exciting. This sentence is also combined together to make one sentence.

Hope this helps!
