Antique Persian rugs should be handled with care. THey can be cleaned by lightly vacuuming them. If you spill liquids on it, use paper towels to absorb as much of it as possible then use water only (no soap or other cleaning solutions) to clean what is left. If a stain remains you should probably contact a specialist.

Vacuuming with a non-power nozzle vacuum wand (Power nozzle and/or power brush wands were designed for wall to wall. They wear out orientals) Beating your carpet (Vacuums do not get all of this deep dirt.) -How to do it: Take your carpet outside and flip in over so that the back of the rug is up. Take that power nozzle vacuum and vacuum the back. Remove the dirt, vacuum the face of the rug with a non-power nozzle vacuum wand, and repeat this process until there is no more dirt.
