It isn't "contracted" really. Rather it is a result of having too much uric acid in your system. This build-up of uric acid causes crystals to form, especially at the joints, and the ensuing pain from gout is a result of the inflammation from those crystals forming. Certain foods and drinks such as seafood, pork and alcohol can elevate the risk of gout while vitamin C, coffee, dairy products and physical exercise have been shown to reduce the risk of gout.
