Mixing the primary colors of light produce white light because white light has it's own wavelength that will refract and reflect at different angles.green blue and red light rays are the certain combination for white light. Paint doesn't have the luxury of wavelengths!

Why combining colors of paint won't give you the same results as combining the colors of light?
When you add colors of paint, you are adding the wavelengths of light that are absorbed by the paint. When you add light, you combine the wavelength that you see. For example, when you add green, red and blue light, you get white light because white is a combination of all light. When you add red, green and blue paint however, that means that all non-red, non-green and non-blue light is absorbed, which will leave you with nothing (black).

Well I'm not sure about the color addition part, I have that same questin, but mixing pigments is called color subtraction because more color is absorbed and taken away then reflected and transmitted.
