How is space exploration beneficial to humanity?

Well, by political and economic standard, space exploration is absolutely not necessary and costs billions of dollars to fund. However, it is necessary to obtain knowledge. The human race has always had the urge to explore new territorry and learn everything they can about what is beyond themselves. In today's world, we know almost everything we can know about our own world. Our world is getting so small, we can communicate across the globe in seconds. I believe that it is necessary for human kind because we need the feeling of exploration and finding things we never imagined. I believe it is a reminder of the amazing things the human race is capable of, without all the negatives we face today such as global warming and extinction. I know that when I and milliones of others see a world shattering feat like reaching the moon, etc., we feel strong pride in ourselves. I hope that people will look beyond politics and economic cost of the space program and look at it as an investment in the future of the human race and our knowledge of the great universe around us. We need to expand our horizons away from just in front of our noses. Our ability to achive that will ensure our future success of our race in the universe.
