The main difference is that diffusion does not require energy and active transport does require energy. Just for the record diffusion has a concentration that moves from high to low, and active transport has a concentration that moves from low to high. (Hope this helps to answer your question!)

Active transport moves material across a cell membrane against a concentration difference and does not require energy. Where diffusion is the process which molecules tend to move from an area where they are more concentrated, to an area where they are less concentrated.

In diffusion a substance moves from a high concentration to a lower one. In active transport it is the opposite, the substance moves from a low to a high concentration. Active transport always requires energy while no energy is needed in diffusion. diffusion is also down concentration gradient (just as osmosis), while active transport is against concentration gradient.

The main way that active transport differs from diffusion would be that active transport uses ATP (energy unit) but diffusion does not. Diffusion is one of the passive transport which do not require ATP.

Active transport requires energy in the form of ATP.

How is diffusion different from active transport?

active transport is different from diffusion. active transport has to do with the movement of chemical substance through a gradient of concentration. diffusion has to do with requiring the expenditure of energy
