You can tell because if that form of species originated in a certain area and if the fossil is found in a different area or continent you can tell that the species traveled then the land mass or super continent Pangaea separated and that species landed over there
Example: If a species of animal originated in Africa and that specie was found in South America you can tell that that specie during the Pangaea time that species traveled, died, then the continents divided into the different forms to form the new day land form
Plate tectonics and Pangaea you get evidence from ancient climate zones, land features, and fossils
1. Fossils that can be found in many continents and cannot be explained for their presence in the present day we live in. (Such as the glossepteris species.) 2. Paleomagnetism
africa and south america
Two things that supports the continental drift theory are; 1. Fossil. 2. Continent Shapes.
Evidence for continental drift is now extensive. Similar plant and animal fossils are found around different continent shores, suggesting that they were once joined. The fossils of the freshwater crocodile, found both in Brazil and South Africa, are one example; another is the discovery of fossils of the aquatic reptile Lystrosaurus from rocks of the same age from locations in South America, Africa, and Antarctica. There is also living evidence --- the same animals being found on two continents. An example of this is a particular earthworm found in South America and South Africa. The complementary arrangement of the facing sides of South America and Africa is obvious, but is a temporary coincidence. In millions of years, seafloor spreading, continental drift, and other forces of tectonophysics will further separate and rotate those two continents. It was this temporary feature which inspired Wegener to study what he defined as continental drift, although he did not live to see his hypothesis become generally accepted. It's generally saying that fossils have been found on landmasses far away from each other but because of seafloor spreading the continents could have once been connected.
The first one is fossils and the second is the unusual jigsaw puzzle of the continents when they were put together.

Fossil of an ocean fish found on two different continents would not be good evidence of continental drift because Fossils of land animals are a better piece of evidence of continental drift than fish.

Easy how come the Himalayas split into two? animal fossils are found in countrys they don't belong all the contries connect together. Just search continental drift patterns or sumthin
lol

i dont even kno ok you people shouldf know
i looked for this answer for an hour
It isnt its the same thing-plate tectonics create the idea of continental drift.
