The Great Dividing Range begins at the northern tip of Queensland and extends down the entire eastern coast to Victoria, turning west and finally finishing in the Grampian Ranges in Victoria's west. Its total length exceeds 3,500km. Much of it consists of low hills and mountains, with its main peaks being in the Australian Alps of eastern Victoria and NSW (highest point: Mt Kosciuszko, at 2228m) and again in northern Queensland (highest point: Mt Bartle Frere, at 1622m).

Definitely. Large parts of the Great Dividing Range, which run down the east coast of Australia, were volcanic. In the far north are the Undara Lava Tubes, remnant lava tubes from ancient volcanic activity.
