In a 1997 Ford Explorer : I was looking at the Owner Guide and it shows that it is the ( # 6 relay ) The fuel pump relay is one of the 3 large relays in the Power Distribution Box ( which is " live " ) The fuel pump relay is in the 2nd row from the drivers side , and it is the 2nd large relay from the front of the box / vehicle * the other large relay in that row is the PCM relay and the large relay in the first row from the drivers side is the Wide Open Throttle Air Conditioning relay
On my 1995 Ford Explorer XLT the fuel pump relay is in the power distribution box ( which is " live " ) located in the engine compartment on the drivers side It is the large relay ( there are 3 large relays ) in the 2nd row from the drivers side , and the fuel pump relay is the 2nd large relay from the front end of the box ( the other large relay in that row is the PCM power relay ) also the other large relay , which is in the 1st row is ( the Wide open throttle A/C relay ) I assume your 2 door sport would be the same ( I sure wish the diagram I was looking at was numbered )
On a 1996 Ford Explorer : Yes , I assume it is the same as my 1995 Ford Explorer : There are ( 3 ) LARGE relays that I know of in the Power Distribution Box In the row nearest the drivers side , the large relay is the Wide Open Throttle Air Conditioning relay In the 2nd row from the drivers side : The first large relay , nearest the front of the vehicle is the PCM RELAY The second large relay fron the front of the vehicle is the FUEL PUMP RELAY
