Fossil relatives of the common gerbil have been discovered as far back as the Middle Miocene Epoch, which was about 16.4 million to 11.2 million years ago!
The gerbils we commonly see as pets came from Mongolia. In 1935, twenty breeding pairs were deported to the UK, USA and Japan. The pet gerbils we have today can trace their history back to these forty original gerbils.
I would say one human year us equal to about twenty gerbil years. This is based on the fact that a healthy gerbil can live to be four human years old, and the average human lives between 75 and 85. It's simple math from there.
Gerbils live from 3-5 years with good care but some can live 6 or 7 years but that's more rare.
They live for about 1-2 months
2-4 years
An average of 3 - 5 years, but the oldest gerbil on record lived to 7 years!!
3-5 years
2-4 years
2 - 5 years, it can vary a lot.
On average gerbils live between 2 to 4 years
2-5 years once there was a report on a 8 year old gerbils
gerbils normally live 2 to 4 years but i have a cousin that's geril lives 7 years. 4 years
2 years 2 years
About 6 inches
the longest living gerbil lived up to 8 years.
About 6 inches
grebils will live anywhere from 1 to 4 years. some (like mine) may reach 5 or even 6 years of age. given that a normal human living in good conditions can live to 80 a single human year is equal to 16 gerbil years
