How long can a dog be left alone for because were thinking of getting 1 but we need to leave it 7 hours in the week but on the weekend we will play with it loads when the dog is left toys are with it?

as long as it has plenty of space to play in exercise before and after and heaps of toys should be ok but having another dog as a friend would be better that way it will minimize what it destroys when it gets bored
I just recently got a puppy and a dog should be fine in a cage for that amount of time just don't let it roam the house until he/she is potty trained because they will pee on the floor.
