Food left out of the refrigerator is okay to eat for about 2 hours. If the temperature is under 80 degrees. The longer a food stays in the danger zone the more risk you take eating that food. Foods should either be kept hot or kept cold before eating to be really safe.

In my navy days I kept Hellman's in my locker aboard ship. If I missed chow or wanted s snack, I kept some white bread around for a mayo sandwich. Sometimes the opened jar might be opened for 3-4 weeks. It never smelled or tasted bad. I never got sick.

∙ 15y agoIt is best to keep this food refrigerated. Leaving this food in the danger zone is not good. Bacteria can grow on food after an hour in the danger zone.
