How long does Hellman's mayonnaise last after its expiration date?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

it doesnt because it has expired is this a trick question?

NOTE: Update by new author: Hellmann's Mayo shows a "Best if used by" date. Not an expiration date. Opened and then closed and then refrigerated jars/packages last a very long time. Some people like to go by expiration dates or best if used by dates but I prefer the old fashioned method.

Open the container; Smell the product; View the product; Taste a small sample; If all are good then it's most likely safe to consume.

In fact, I just had some Hellmann's Mayo from an Easy Out squeeze container that said "Best if Used By: SEP0913" and today is OCT0714!

I opened the container and smelled it. Smelled like normal mayo. I looked at it. It didn't look watery or dark; it looked normal. I squeezed a small amount out onto my finger; felt like normal mayo consistency; tasted it; tasted absolutely fine.

I added it to my tuna fish and had a lovely lunch. :-)

If something doesn't pass all of the above tests, you may wish to discard it.

How long does it take to digest mayonnaise?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

You really want to know? First, the mayonnaise is squeezed through your esophagus into your stomach, where it plops right into your stomach acid. Then, the acid breaks down the mayonnaise into its original components, mainly eggs and oil. These are slowly broken down further until the mayonnaise is reduced to a thick slime dredged of the little nutrition it might have had upon swallowing.

The digested mayonnaise travels to the intestines, where it is broken down and separated into liquids and solids. After this, the separate parts are unrecognizable and join the other broken down foods and couple million dead red blood cells from that day and are washed into your sewer before you go to bed. Fascinating, isn't it?

Can you eat mayonnaise after getting tongue piercing?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

With any oral piercing oral hygiene is very important, so rinse after anything other than water for the first two weeks after getting the piercing done. Common sense should indicate that you are not going to sit down and eat a jar of mayonnaise, however should that be your life's desire, fill your boots. Just make sure you rinse your mouth out with a good oral rinse after eating. The concern is the residue that is left on the tongue after eating, this can foster a growth of bacteria if left unchecked leading to swelling and distension. So rinse after eating and all should be fine.

What is the emulsifying agent in a mayonnaise?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

An emulsifier is an ingredient that causes to other ingredients to mix together when they wouldn't normally. A common example is mustard when used in a vinegarette. It causes the oil and vinegar to emulsify which means they stay combined and don't separate after mixing. Emulsifiers aren't perfect and sometimes the mixture separates after sitting for some time. But it definitely postpones the separation. Egg yolks are a common emulsification agent in foods like mayonnaise.

How long should I leave mayonnaise in hair?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Some people say to leave it in overnight...some say for a couple of hours. The idea is to smother the lice. Now I cant really see them surviving more than a couple hours. The oil in the mayo will help to comb out the nit(eggs). Be sure to repeat this process every 5-6 days in case you miss a couple of the eggs. Hope this helps.
