The waters receded sufficiently for the ark to land and the people and animals to emerge after a number of months. Some say God sent a wind in order to hasten the evaporation. The oceans and deep underwater trenches could now accommodate much of the flood waters. Additionally, there are vast amounts of water held in artesian basins and huge underground seas such as one below East Asia which is the size of the Arctic Ocean. All of these changes would have hastened the removal of flood waters from the earth and reduced the drying time considerably.

The Bible does not say how long the land would have taken to dry after the Flood. All we can do is estimate how long it might have taken if we assume that the biblical story is actually true, looking at the natural processes involved.
The waters are said to have been several kilometres deep, even covering high mountains. So, the land could not have even begun to dry until the waters drained away. This raises the conundrum of where on earth the waters went - there is no evidence today, on or under the ground, for such a huge volume of water. The ground is described as being under water for an entire year, so could have been saturated to bedrock, a depth of several metres in places. Even in the total absence of rain, this could have taken many months to dry sufficiently for normal life to resume.
