He orbited earth for 108 minutes.
Yuri Gagarin spent approximately 108 minutes in space during his historic Vostok 1 mission on April 12, 1961. He completed one orbit around the Earth before safely returning.
Yuri Alexeyevich Gagarin was a cosmonaut for the Soviet Union. On April 12, 1961, he became the first human being to travel into space. His spacecraft was called "Vostok I" and it completed a single orbit of the earth in 1 hour and 48 minutes.
Gagarin's flight aboard Vostok I lasted 1 hour and 48 minutes, the time for a single orbit of the Earth at the altitude reached (105 to 203 miles or 169 to 327 km).
Yuri Gagarin's launch, on his way to becoming the first human being to orbit the earth, took place at 6:07 in the morning GMT. In all, the rocket engines fired for 10 minutes, before his capsule, the Vostok-1 spacecraft, separated from the last stage and coastedthe rest of the way through its single earth orbit. Gagarin landed 1hour and 48minutesafter his launch, and never went to space again.
He did not go to the moon
i think it lasted 100mins i quote i think!!!!!!!!!!!!The first flight was by the Russians with Yuri Gagarin on it. He lasted in space for 1 hour and 48 mins, completing one orbit around the earth.
Yuri Gagarin was a cosmonaut for the Soviet Union. On April 12, 1961, he became the first human being to travel into space. His spacecraft was called "Vostok I" and it completed a single orbit of the earth in 1 hour and 48 minutes. Yuri Gagarin was aboard but not piloting Vostok 1 on 12 April 1961. While he launched with the capsule, he did not land with it, as the Soviets did not believe that the landing system (landing on land, not water) was sufficient to assure Gagarin's survival. He ejected at 7 km above the ground and landed via parachute. This was technically a departure from the usual international definition of an orbital spaceflight. However, since Gagarin achieved orbit while Alan Shepard (first American in space) did not, the point of which country was first to orbit is moot. Vostok 2 with Gherman Titov aboard completed 17 orbits in August 1961, long before John Glenn's three-orbit flight in February, 1962.
Yuri's flight was 108 minutes long he was the first person in space he beat the Americans in the space race between the soviet union and the u.s.a.
Yuri Gagarin spent a total of 108 minutes in space during his historic Vostok 1 flight on April 12, 1961.
Russian Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin was the first man to orbit the Earth. Born on 9 March 1934 in Klushino near Gzhatsk, in 1960 he was selected for the Soviet space program, where he was subjected to a punishing series of experiments designed to test his physical and psychological endurance, as well as training relating to the upcoming flight. He excelled in all areas, and his height of only 157cm made him an ideal choice as the first to launch into space. Gagarin was launched into space in Vostok 3KA-2, or Vostok 1, on 12 April 1961, becoming the first man in space and the first to orbit the Earth. Soviet authorities did not expect him to survive the descent back through Earth's atmosphere, so in-flight, he was promoted from Senior Lieutenant to Major. Gagarin did survive, and he became an instant, worldwide celebrity, touring widely to promote the Soviet achievement.
Yuri Gagarin was the first human to orbit Earth in space in 1961, staying in space for about 108 minutes. However, the first person to stay long-duration in space was Valeri Polyakov, a Russian cosmonaut who spent 437 days aboard the Mir space station in 1994-1995.
Yuri Gagarin's wife, Valentina Gagarina, passed away on September 7, 2021. She was born on March 5, 1936, and lived a long life, often speaking about her husband's legacy and contributions to space exploration. Their marriage lasted until his tragic death in 1968.
