This highly depended on where you started from. However, the most method of travel at the time was ox-drawn wagons, so it could often take months to get all the way to California if one started from the east coast.

United States Gold Rush

Depends on where you started from. If you started from the east coast that is 2500 miles so if you traveled by horse you could do 10 miles a day. A steam train would take less time. If you were in California it took less time to reach the gold country.

Australia Gold Rush

Australian infrastructure was not that well developed by the mid-1800s, so a land journey from Sydney, Melbourne, or Adelaide to Ballarat (or similar) would take a month or two as opposed to short time it takes today by car.

It would depend where you came from or what type of transport. A carrage would have taken 2days from victoria to N.S.W

There were many gold rushes. In the US, the most important was the California Gold Rush. People going to California from the East might take months to get there. They could travel overland, but railroads did not go much west of Kansas City at the time, and they had to go by horse, wagon, or walk from there. Another way to get to California was to take a ship to Panama, cross the isthmus, and take another ship from there. A third way was to go by ship around Cape Horn. None of these was easy, and all were dangerous.
