The Visigoths and the Vandals, mostly, controlled what is now Spain.
The Vandals, Alans and Sueves moved from Gaul to Spain. The Visigoths then also invaded Spain and became the rulers there. The Vandals and Alans moved on To Africa.
They had significant powers in Spain for about 300 years. They arrived in 732 and within a couple decades they ruled significant parts of it. The earlier inhabitants of Spain, led by the Visigoths, resisted the Muslims and fought back. By the middle of the eleventh century, the Visigoths controlled most of northern Spain, but the Muslims ruled most of the south. So at this stage you could not say that either side "ruled Spain": both ruled bits of it. The war continued for the next 400 years. The Visigoths gradually gained ground. The Muslims were finally expelled from Spain in 1492.
