June 6th was the day that the beachheads and most inland objectives were secured. Caen was taken on the 8th of August, which was the last objective for Operation Neptune. You can say the Falaise Pocket finished that invasion; it was closed by late August 1944. So to answer your question, about 1 1/2 months.
It took only 16 days from the landing of Norman soldiers to the victory at The Battle of Hastings (14 October). William the Conqueror expected that to be the end of it, but Edgar Atheling was proclaimed king and heavy fighting continued for another 2 months before English forces collapsed and William the Conqueror was crowned king on Christmas Day.
This still was not the end of it, and major outbreaks of resistance continued for another 5 years. This resistance had its back broken by the "harrying of the North", a campaign of genocide and destruction by William the Conqueror's forces.
This answer assumes the question was about how long it took the Normans to gain control over England. If the question is actually about how long they controlled England for, the answer is that they never left. The seat of control of the Norman kingdom was moved to England, and eventually the original Norman part of the kingdom was lost, but the Norman state never relinquished control of England, it just very gradually became more English than Norman.
D-Day lasted from June 6th, 1944 until August 20th, 1944.
How do you define "landing" ? From the planning to what ? From the first footstep to the last? or what?

Yes, they did not anticipate where the invasion would take place, not enough land was covered by their troops. They also thought that Dday would be postponed due to weather.
