it all depends how long a person has been homeless for or how much longer they will live without a home, that determines their accommodation. most homeless people tend to hide away from the open streets due to physical abuse. so really it all depends on the area. if safe then i would say several months if not a year.

Why did some homeless people chose to be homeless?

Not always, most homeless are homeless due to losing a job, not having money to continue on their rent and such. Some of these, though they did not choose to become homeless at first, become accustomed to the freedom of such a lifestyle and say they choose to stay homeless. There are a few though that did consciously choose to become homeless and love it. The range of homelessness goes from the stereotype homeless person with very little in the way of possessions up to people that live in RV's.

What do you do if you have nowhere to live?

If you are made homeless then I would have to say if you have no friends you can stay with for a little while then find homeless shelters in your area. Then you can go down to a health and human services office and apply for housing, food stamps if you have no job or low income. They will help you out to the best of their abilities espeacially if you are pretty much just living on the streets already.
