Baby raccoons feed exclusively on the mother's milk for the first 6-8 weeks of life. Then they are old enough to go on foraging expeditions with the mother., They continue to nurse to a lesser extent. At about 6 months some may leave and go out on their own but others remain with the mother through the first winter and leave when they are 10-12 months of age in the spring.
