Depends on the vehicle, how you use them and whether they are drum or disc. Can be as little as 1000 miles or 10000 miles plus. Check your service manual or on-line forums or dealership.

(improved answer)Rear brakes do just 30% of the overall braking effort and so last a lot longer than front ones.Drum brakes have a huge surface area compared to pads and will last twice as long as disk brakes. However they are enclosed in the drum and are often neglected when it comes to visual inspection. Heat and brake dust find it harder to escape and the friction material can become in-effective due to these factors.Drum brakes often have to be changed even when it looks like there is plenty of miles left on them !They can also suffer from uneven wear and drums themselves may have to be skimmed or replaced on higher mileage cars to fix this.Proper fitting involves dressing of leading edges and careful replacement of springs etc. Adjusting the brakes is sometimes a manual job and you should read plenty about your cars brakes before trying them yourself.Rear disk brakes are more common every year and are easy to change.

Ive seen rear drum shoes last 50k and rear pads last 25k

How long before rear brakes and rotors should need to be replaced on a new town and country?

All cars have the brake system designed to make a loud screeching noise when the pads get low. Most people do not do the proper maintenance on their brakes, which is lubing of parts. This maintenance ensures even wear of the pads and or any problems will be noticed. Most braking is done with the front brakes so rear brakes tend to last much longer. Five plus years before having to do the rear brakes is not unusual.
